Thank you to all who made it to the Dessert Potluck. It was nice to see everyone and enjoy each other's company. I feel so lucky to have such a great class with wonderful caring families! Here is the video we made:

Math Workplaces
In the last two weeks we have added a couple of new Workplaces during math time. One is a Hungry Caterpillar game that two children can play to try and "fill up" their caterpillar first. This takes geometry skills to fit different shapes together into the hexagon!
We also added one today called Count and Compare Butterflies. This game is similar to the card game "war"...each child chooses a ten-frame card, then the two children decide together who has more and who has less, and put them in the right spots. They take turns spinning to see whether the "more" or "less" get to keep the cards.
Last, I have added the computer as a Workplace Choice. The children get on a program provided by Bridges Math where they fill in pattern block designs with the mouse. This is great practice for them to log into the computer, open a specific program, and follow/remember directions!

Matching Sounds to Print
This week in Fundations we played a game with all the letters/sounds we have learned so far. We laid out the letter/keyword cards on the rug, and I filled a bag with objects that had those beginning sounds. Children each got a turn to pick an object out of the bag, and match it to the letter it went with (m with motorcycle, etc). It was fun and they enjoyed helping each other!

Kindergarten Writers
It all started when three children wanted to keep something up that they had built with the blocks. When we went to clean up and the children were following the rule (everybody helps!) the structure got taken down. I casually said "I guess next time we'll have to make a sign!" Well they certainly listened! Over the last three days they have spent every free moment making more signs for the block area that say "Please don't touch" "No touching" etc. They have been very creative trying to get their message across and very inspired to write!
