Math Workplaces

Today we started a new activity for math workplaces. Each child will have a ziploc bag with numbers in it, and they will sequence the numbers (put them in order). Children have different numbers depending on where they are at in recognizing numbers and counting. We all practiced today and now they will be available as an independent choice during math. Bags have roughly 20 numbers in them, and they all did really well! Wahoo!

Math Problem Solvers- Come to Life!

The kids worked very hard over the last several weeks to create their own problem solvers using the sharks, whales, and seals that we've been working with in the Bridges math program. Now that they are finally finished, today we acted out some of the problems to solve them. Some of the examples were "Three sharks were sleeping, and three were looking for food. How many altogether?" "2 baby seals were sleeping on a rock and 8 more swam over. How many now?". The kids had fun pretending to be the animals and getting to move around while we learned about addition and subtraction! We will do more over the next few days so everyone's can be acted out by the class.

Flynn Theater

We had such a fabulous time at the Flynn theater today! We saw three shows- The Little Cloud, The Mixed-Up Chameleon, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It was a black light puppet show and it was amazing! The kids knew the stories well and loved predicting what would come next. They did a lot of waiting around before and after and did a wonderful job following the rules and expectations for what they were supposed to be doing at any given time.
